Zenger Farm is taking a stance AGAINST Measure 105 and Measure 106,rising alongside our many community partners who are fighting for the rights of people in our community to exist with dignity.
We encourage everyone in our community to go out and VOTE – the ballot is due on November 6th!

NO to Measure 105:

What It Does: Gets rid of Oregon’s sanctuary status, removing the law limiting the use of state/local law enforcement resources to enforce federal immigration laws.

How It Affects Our Community: This measure directly targets communities of color, which would increase the racial profiling of Black and Brown communities, increase family separation, promote racism, and treat migrant peoples as criminals. Many of our CSA members, workshop participants, students and their families, and other community members and leaders could be targeted by law enforcement and immigration authorities. NO to Measure 106:

What It Does:Amends the Oregon Constitution to ban the use of public funds directly or indirectly (health plans and insurance) to pay for abortion.

How It Affects Our Community: This amendment will prevent low or no income communities from accessing reproductive healthcare, including abortion. This means only people who can afford it are able to have access to abortion. This will have a disproportionate impact on many of Zenger Farm’s community members: people of color, working-class women of all sectors, migrant and refugee women, LGBTQ+ folks, youth etc. Though the people backing Measure 106 claim it is not anti-choice, this measure would make it illegal for 270,000 people who are on Oregon’s Medicaid program to have access to a choice. No one should be denied healthcare because they cannot afford it. More info on M106 here: https://nocutstocare.com/
Measures 105 and 106 may not seem related to the fight for food justice, but they are a part of the same fight. These measures attack reproductive rights and persecute migrant communities. They target many of Zenger Farm community members and their right to live with dignity. We believe people need to thrive, not just survive, in order to address food justice issues in their communities. At Zenger Farm, we know that the fight for food justice overlaps with people’s many struggles towards liberation. We also know that we cannot move towards a world where food is just for everyone, until all are free from injustice and oppression. Right now, our communities are under attack and we are committed to fighting back.
